Tire recommendation

Will be going 7x15 all around,

What do you guys recommend and why?

195-65-15 or

205-60-15

What experience has anyone had with the following tires;

1. Bridgestone Potenza pole position

2. Dunlap sp sport 5000

3. Goodyear Eagle GT

195/65/15 is the correct size closest to original . I don't know what is available in that size anymore. I used the bridgestone s-02 NLA in 15. Very good tires. I switched to 16's and now use Bridgestone re-11 which are great.

Using the Bridgestone Potenza's. Simple reason is that they are a good V rated tire with good grip, they are affordable, and they are readily available.

A note of caution, I did not like the feel of 7" wheels on the front of my 911. They caused a degraded on center steering feel. The offset is different from the 6's and the 911 steering is sensitive.

I run 195/65-15 Yoko AVS V rated tires on my Targa. They're comfortable on long trips, and perform fine for the street.

Alignment can make all the difference in this, Tom. Adjusting the front toe can compensate for the increased scrub radius somewhat. Finding the right setting for your desired "feel" under your normal driving conditions may take some trial and error, but in general, decreasing toe-in as scrub increases is necessary to maintain the same "liveliness" in the steering.

The lack of "feel" you describe can also be perceived as a positive effect for high-speed, straight-line stability, so it all depends on what you're looking for in your setup. If you're doing a lot of freeway driving and like the car to track straight and not wander, more toe-in is desirable, as is more caster. If you want the car to turn-in on a dime and be really lively, some toe-out will do wonders, even with 8" rims and 245 tires in the front, which is what I used to run on my '73.

It's all a compromise to suit your needs/desires.

Currently on 15x5.5 steelies but will be moving to 15x7 Fuchs in the spring. They look a little bit wide for 5.5s, maybe not wide enough for 7s but the correct deep 6s are not in my budget and 15x6 steelies probably too heavy.
