    Help from the Skandinavians Please

Ok so I'm on to the third book in the trilogy by Stig Larssen and its bugging me that I'm not sure about the pronounciation of some of the place names referred to.

Can someone please explain what effect the various dots have on pronounciation. There seems to be double dots, single dots, hollow dots etc? I know I'm being anal but you know enquiring minds and all that!

Sorry I can't replicate these on my keyboard to show what I mean...

    Crack-course in Swedish...

OK, Cam...I'll bite...Here we go...for starters, we have three additional letters in our(Swedish)alphabet...they are placed all the way at the end...i.e after all other letters as follows:

    1) - å = "ooough"
    2) - ä = "aaaa"
    3) - ö = "uuuu" (sort of)...or it sounds more like the last sound in "Chardon bleu"..they are all "vowels"(sp?).

So, there you go...You're all set!...

btw...many swedes sounds like that last sound in "bleu"...when they are thinking!...or trying to explain something they know absolutely nothing about!... and politicians find it very useful....Hej så länge.../ Lars...

P.S...The Norwegians and the Danes have oe = ö and the ae = ä (not sure about the å) and some other funny noises....LOL...
