Thread: What horn is right for a 1966 911?

What horn is right for a 1966 911?

OK, I see what the BACK of the horn looks like. . .

But I wonder what the FRONT looks like? I know it's not the "snail shell" type as that is an SWB horn from 305100 (1967 Model Year "official" cutoff). . .but is it flat or does it have a grill? A, B or C

    Thanks!

    Thanks Richard! That was fast.

There sure are a lot of different frequencies.

    901 635 102 00 . . . .911 coupe -68, low pitch 390Hz, only with
    901 635 112 00 high pitch 520Hz
this pair only through chassis 301224

    901 635 102 01 . . . .low pitch 290Hz, only with
    901 635 112 01 high pitch 345HZ
this pair from 301224 through 305100 (start of '67MY)

then there is the 912 set. . .

    902 635 112 00. . . .low pitch 335Hz and
    902 635 112 00 . . . .high pitch 400hz
these only through 354000 (Porsche) or 458100 (Karmann)

    According to the Mercedes guys,
The official Bosch data, for what its worth, indicates we had two tones, middle and high, indicated by a 3/4 or 9/10 suffix designation on the horn tag. The 3/4 were on early cars, the 9/10 were on later cars.

    3 or 9: 290 Hz Tone
    4 or 10: 345 Hz. Tone
Guess I better bring a tuning fork to the Junkyard! Here is a link to what they sound like (volume DOWN) http://www.wolo-mfg.com/306-2t-stereo.wav

Turns out Bosch has reproduced these for certain cars. . . .http://www.automotive-tradition.de/e...file_Horns.pdf

    Below are the Bosch numbers.

i have a '68 project underway. the parts manual that i have isn't clear (or at least i can't figure it out) about which type of horns would have come with my car. the parts manual shows two types of horns in photos (snail shell horns and round horns (similar to the 356 horns)), and also has numbers for what appear to be other horn types. i've also seen trumpet-type horns for sale.

can anyone tell me which horn would be proper/original for #11880001?

    thank you, as always.
From 305100 (1967 MY cutoff chassis number) the snail-shell horns are correct.

If you look at 901 635 112 02 you can see that that was used from 305101.

The Bosch lists are not much help, they list the old UFO shaped type.

According to the parts book, your '67 SHOULD have those horns, they were used from 305100 onward.

As far as sounding like a Buick. . . that would have had an AC DELCO horn back in the day, also a snail-shell type and probably also in the Key of F.
