Thread: 911 2.4E targa

    911 2.4E targa

    Hi folks,

I bought a 1973 2.4E targa a while ago, but at this point, I don't know what to do anymore. I'd like to restore this car, but I've arranged a deal with a friend of my to buy his 2.2S Targa in the near future.

I would like to clarify some things out, like original color (paint tag is not visible anymore)
Maybe some paint guru's can answer this question, what's the color which you see on the dash?

Also asking for opinions; The 2.2S targa has been converted to G model but has been sandblasted, primed and already painted. Plans are to convert it back to F model. The engine and transmission are matching, but will need to be rebuild.
But what to do with the E targa (original engine and gearbox not there, 2.2S engine and tranny inside.)

    All the best,

    Talitho

P.S. Was it possible to order a 1973 2.4E with the optional K Kurz RS fuel tank?

Looks like light yellow to me code 117.

A 2.2S would not be an F model.

How much rust is on the car? Any more pics?

    Mike,

I was also thinking yellow, but Light yellow or Signal Yellow?

The car has no rust anymore since the previous owner started restoration ten years ago. All rusty bits have been removed and replaced with fresh new metal.
I have lots of pictures, if you like, I can send them by e-mail?

The yellow looks like the primer that was used with the "safety colors". It was part of what made them pop. It may have been used with other colors as well. I seem to remember that these paints and primers used heavy metals to add to the brightness of the colors.

Signal yellow would be a nice find but I still think light yellow.

Are you saying you would sell once you have the 2.2S

That is one option, the other one is to sell the car -as is- and buy the S. I also would like to keep this one, but I'm afraid I will not have enough room to store both cars. Once the S arrives, this will be priority #1, and maybe this 2.4E targa will be put away for x years...

Looks very similar to my signal yellow ´73 T targa:

Mine has plastic 85 l tank from new (option M424). At least in Europe it would have been possible to order 2.4 E with 85 l tank.

    Mika,

thanks for your input. I'm going to take the engine and gearbox out tomorrow and then we'll see.

Today I had some time and cleaned the paint tag, 117-9-1 is the color, so that would be Light Yellow.

Also discovered that there are holes in the front to put the RS tank mounting brackets. During a search through the boxes with parts, I already found 2 of the 3 brackets to mount the tank.
