    Green faced oil temp/press gauge

As green faced oil temp/press combi-gauges rarely come for sale, have anybody converted later gauge (or taking mechanism) and put it to e.g. green faced temp level gauge? If so, does e.g. North Hollywood Speedo this and any idea of costs?
Of course then you should correct sender.

I'm just thinking as those later ones are really cheap and green faced temp gauge has 2 opening (haven't opened one though) so it could work with 2 needles if mounted laterally. Of course it needs "re-facing" after that so its not really DIY but just checking if this is possible.

Here's the trouble- the old "green" temperature sender and gauge have a full-circle range of around 100 ohms at one end and 200 ohms at the other. As the EE's here can tell you, that is a VERY narrow range of resistance for operation.

The "modern" 69- LWB gauge has a range of about 18 ohms at one end, and 1000 ohms at the other-- a MUCH bigger resistance range, with the result that the modern gauge is more accurate. Of course, the "modern" sender is only a $36, compared to the replacement for the "old" sender, which was about $140 last time I checked. Actually, the last time I checked was just now, and I don't see it available.

The problem is the senders LOOK different so for concours you will have to swap them, which you have to do anyway insofar as the old ones have a date code. Removing something from the oil system of a concours-clean engine and then putting it back before the drive home is definitely a challenge!

Long and the short of it is if you don't care about the date stamp on the back, you might as well buy any gauge you want and have the face screened. This will be more reliable and accurate which is a good idea when it comes to temps.

North Hollywood does this, it's a couple hundred bucks.

    Many thanks!
I was thinking about those things about sender (reliability and price) and for my purpose it doesn't make difference what date/looks of it is. So I guess I could any LWB gauge and get mechanism moved to one of my green faced gauge.
