Thread: Gas tank Seal gasket

    Gas tank Seal gasket

How thick should it be? And where does it go?
The one I have is about 1/2" thick.
I assume it goes on the flange.
it's dense foam and the tank sits very high.
I'll never get the mounting clips screwed in.
It looks best with no seal.
I'm tempted to just run a bead of silicone.
    HELP!

Yes it is sealed on the flange, black silicone or the stuff they use to seal new windshields is what I'm going to use. Something similar was used at the factory @ least in 1967 it will also seal much better than the foam 'weatherstrip' the vendors are selling.

I have no problem with the theory that all men are created equal.
But after that moment you are on your own and nobody owes you a damn thing.

I can see where the concern would come from with a high profile-high density foam type seal. The ones I have seen and used are not either and provide an adequate seal if things are straight and mate well. Otherwise, maybe use the goo MarkS is talking about.

I'd not want to think about the difficulty in removing the tank at a later date if butyl is used.
