    1-800-porsche

Maybe old news but I heard this rumor and it's true:
Call 1-800-PORSCHE and a nice person will, after being given
a VIN and proof of ownership, give you all the info you would
normally get on a Certificate of Authenticity.
I got all relevant #'s, options, colors and build date- the exact
    day. And all for free!

Great news, but if we flood the phone lines, Porsche may change this.

    Alan:

By "VIN" are you including chassis numbers (as one '68 to another).

And what do they ask for proof of ownership?

Yes, chassis #. They will require you to fax proof of ownership such as title, registration, etc.

When I called, they required proof of ownership; gave me a case number; as well as fax/email in order to substantiate said proof.
Then they can verbally tell me what would be on a COA.
If I wanted COA, I would then decide to purchase/order it.
No guarantees that they will find anything, but they would search if I can prove I am owner. Cool
