Thread: accelerator rod bushings

    accelerator rod bushings

I will be replacing the broken hand throttle drag link and was advised to check out the accelerator rod bushings - I have found them in my parts book and there are three.

Where in the tunnel are they?

I hear the rod rattling around a bit but I think it may need to have the slack taken out and it may not a bushing problem.

    thanks.

Bob, the bushings are; under the shifter, under the hand brake assly, and under the rear tunnel cover. The noise you hear is the throttle rod clanking around in its brackets, because the bushings are gone. The pictures are from a presentation I did at last years Parade on fixing this very issue.

got my bushings from my local dealer - they give a 10% discount to PCA members.

got the old broken up pieces out (at least on the rear 2, haven't found the front one yet).

any tips on installation? it seems like a reach to force the new bushing in laterally, but the middle holding "clip" is a complete circle and I see no other way.

should the clip be opened up by bending and then bent back?

    thanks.

Yes the clips should be opened up by bending and bent back. It took me about a minute per bushing to replace the 3. My tunnel was nude so easy to see and get to all 3.

I have no problem with the theory that all men are created equal.

OK - I have replaced the middle and back bushings - can't find the front one - do I have to remove the shifter tower to find it?

    Thanks
