Thread: Door material ?

    Door material ?

Some years have black door panel material that is similar to the strip on the lower dash. Not sure what it's called. Embossed vinyl or sorts, like a checker board pattern.. Can I source that material for a set of door panels or is it hard to find? I remember having a hard time finding a strip for the dash already, never seen it for door panels.. thanks!

Do you mean the '68-only 'elephant hide' ?

I've never owned a '68 model but I think getting hold of any of this material is pretty difficult.

    Greg,
Which year car is this for ?
'68 had the alternatives of 'elephant hide' as in Andy's pic or the more common 'basketweave' pattern from '69 up to the 2.4s.

The basket weave, indeed. I'd need enough to do 2 entire door panels, not the cut out version that fits a stock panel (as seen above).. Something to cover a blank full RS style door panel... Thanks !

There are no absolutes with these cars - there are a few very early '69 cars with that material...I have been unable to find any new material in this pattern.

I owned a 69S targa that I bought from the original owner, it was #002, the second one built. That car had all the correct 1969 changeover pieces, including upholstery, trim details, door handles. The toolkit had the later plug wrench, later 10,000 volt drivers etc.etc. etc.

What did your car have on it?

In retrospect, I may have been thinking of the toolbag only. You'll agree that the elephant hide toolbags made it into many early '69 cars.
