    everyone's favorite...tires

the soon to arrive, new to me RS clone has toyo proxes TPT tires on the rear, nearly new...fronts are very old and need to be replaced immediately, here's the dilemma.

fronts and rears are 215/65/15....my opinion is, too wide and too tall. car has no flares, but also only minimal indication of rubbing up front, rears seems fine.

I'd like to get by replacing just 2 tires....I'm figuring I'll leave the wider tires on the back, should I skinny up the fronts, say to 195's? I can do a 195/65, but would rather a 195/70, which doesn't seem available.

I hope we get to hear more about your new car!

Unless you spring for the Michelin XWX, I think that your best bet are 195/65-15s. I run 195/65-15 Yoko AVS V rated tires on my Targa. They're comfortable and perform well for the street. It's been a long time since I drove any XWX's but my memory is that the modern Yokos are not as good as the XWXs, even though the XWX is 40-year old technology.

The only other tire I know of in 185/70-15 is the Vredestein Classic, which comes at a reasonable price, but I don't know anything about them. I have some 10-year old Vredesteins in 185/70-15, which I'm using at the moment. They have definitely lost their performance edge. The Vredesteins look much better than the Yokos, so there is that to say for going with the correct size.

I have the original "Veith-Pirelli" spare in my targa, but I don't dare to run it! It still holds air fine, however.

I suppose I will bring a real camera with me on my trip to San Fran tomorrow for one last inspection, and to load the car onto the transporter.....then I will post an introduction....kind of a "before"...give me a while before the "after" photos, since my budget has been depleted.

anyway, it is possible the car will be delivered to Hershey, for those attending....and look for the guy scoping out various RS bits.

    yes, more details coming.

so, back on topic...anyone have a problem with me running the 215/65/15 toyos on the back and some BFG-force 205/60/15's on the front?
