here's the story of our new '72 911T RS clone

we've been looking for a while, trying to find a longhood, something rust free at a reasonable price (still unsure of what that means)...the standard rules applied, no rust, decent color, no sepia, no whites, no reds....could already be rs modded, or a car that could be modded well.

we almost pulled the trigger on a '74, impact bumper car, it ran so well, but needed so much stuff to make it what we wanted....then the seller didn't want to sell....

we saw something at european collectibles, but it was red, and I was getting bad vibes.

so, we had seen a midnight blue (originally albert blue) '72 coupe, with very strong 3.0L motor, it was on craigslist, it was on ebay, all for way too much money.....it kept not selling...a san francisco car, west coast all its life, very clean, original floors, never any rust, and the color was so cool.

the seller, a bit of a flake, but the PPI showed it was a really decent car. The last time on ebay, it got close to selling, but the buy it now was way too high...negotiated, low-balled, compromised, and just about closed the deal....I'm in the bay area right now, the car is loaded on the transporter, and it is heading to socal, then to the east coast.

goods: very cool color, narrow body, good fitting ducktail, very, very strong motor, upgraded exhaust, suspension and brakes...drives like a bat out of hell.

bads: leather standard seats in great shape don't fit the personality of the car....I have tan recaros waiting to be bolted in....dash has a coverlay cover, windows have slight tint, some minor scratches on paint, one chip in the windshield....car needs some detailing, but it sure does run great (have I said that already?)...ordered 2 front tires for it

here are some photos of the day.

the transporters, Thomas Sunday, said they are headed right now to SoCal, then heading east, a drop in NC, then PA/NJ, so they might meet me in Hershey, or maybe can get the car to me in NJ before next friday.

And for all these years I thought my 'white' light ivory car was cool. I guess I need to bone up on what the new "standard rules" are. Nice P car Lewis.

I have no problem with the theory that all men are created equal.
But after that moment you are on your own and nobody owes you a damn thing.

Nice car, more photos. I almost put on RS fenders on my 69 when I painted it midnite blue metallic. I was trying to match 013 RS. Now I wish I had.
Your's would look good also with the fenders.

    a couple more photos

Harvey, remarkable how similar the cars are, I prefer the non-flared look, at least for now.

I'm tempted to undo the blackout around the windows, and I certainly need to swap out the talbot mirrors that are useless.

I've helped a few friends remove the black 80s style trim and it transformed the looks of their long hoods.
Have fun driving your new ride this season then change the trim next Winter...You'll be happy you did.

I should have them stop at TLG for my 69S............

I also have some black squares from my 73 if you are interested!
PM me, I can bring them to you in Hershey to look at.

time for an update, new photos after getting my fingerprints off

did some stuff, electrical, obviously the TTG fogs and minilites, got rid of most of the black around the windows, it was just painted on.

Still needs mirrors, arriving tomorrow, and the front and rear windshield trim replaced with brightwork.

did a lot on the interior, tan recaros are fabulous and the correct color according to the build sheet, retractable seat belts, and lowered the front end a bit.
