Sergio's 911 Get The RSR Look!

Sergio's 911 was screaming for the RSR look. The project involved removing old aero mirrors and welding holes, deleting the C2 rocker flares, welding on SC torsion bar hole covers and applying scripts.

If you have never removed C2 fiberglass rockers, be prepared for a laborious project. The rockers are held to the body using generous amounts of panel bonding glue. I found the best way to remove the glue is by using heat and a sharp edge such as a chisel or hard putty knife. By cutting away smaller sections at a time, less damage will be done to the metal rockers under the C2 flares. If you damage the metal rockers, you will need to do some finish/bondo work.

Welding on the SC torsion bar hole covers takes some time and ingenuity. The SC covers must be accurately sized and bent to fit the curvature of the lower quarter panel. Once the SC covers are welded, the bondo is applied and blocked with a rounded block.

The original mirror holes must be welded shut in order to take on a new mirror. Depending on the type of mirror you decide to use, you will need to drill new screw holes. The new mirrors makes such a huge difference in getting that RSR look. The final process was simply applying the vinyl scripts. Making an accurate dry fit before applying the scripts will save you from having to purchase a new set. Making sure the panels are free from dust and dirt will allow for a smooth application. I have found many different measurements for placing RS/RSR/PORSCHE scripts during the years. What exactly is the "correct" fitting? You make that choice. Either way, the important thing is that they are symmetrical to the panels and applied properly. Here are some before and after pictures. Thanks Sergio for letting me work on your unique 911.

The "transformation" is amazing. Here's a shot of what the car looked like before Freddie started:

Freddie, nice work - the car looks great.

Sergio, congrats on the new look - I like that much better. Very, very nice.I would like a ride in that some day (small payback for riding in the silver lightweight at last year's Treffen).

    Scott,

Just let me know when you're back in CA and we'll make it happen.

I am looking forward to debuting the car with the RGruppe gang this weekend in Monterey.

    Freddie,

Great work, I will need to do the same when I eventually get around to installing my rear steel RSR flares - so how did you establish the alignment?

Sergio - the RSR is looking superb mate shame I can't get to Monterey to see you guys in the flesh but have a good one

    Martin,

Your (Vaughn's) car was my inspiration.

Isn't CA midway between Singapore and England? You have no excuse not to stop by for a brew.
