    Powdercoat or Rattle can?

Need to paint the sheet metal for my engine. What have you guys found works well? What brand of paint holds up.

pros, PC they do the work durable finish. RC cheap, in-house no wait.

cons, PC cost, time delay. RC time consuming, finish may not hold up.

    old fashion

I`m still in favor of some good over the counter heat resistant paint. VHT comes to mind.Especially on the engin, other wise it just looks un`natural to me...plus it`s cheap and rewarding to do it your self...no fit up problems either..

Powder is nice but a good paint will work well if applied properly and given time to set up.
I've done both. The powders do hold up to gas and oil better.

    Got a quarter?

    Flip it.

    Good luck,

Ok how about something in between - I like to shoot PPG dp epoxy in black for black engine bay details, It's epoxy so good sticky ness plus it's resistant to oil and gas -

for rattle can I have been using rustoleum hard hat industrial enamel

If you don't ever have to go back to doing it again, powder coating is worth the time and money in my opinion. Freddie

Freddie, what do you mean by "ever have to go back to doing it again"? I like the "out-sourcing" part of powercoating. It is expensive, but one less thing you have to do on the list and the parts are all nice when they get back. I am having problems with my media blast cabinet right now, or I might be more in favor of doing it myself. But with my cabinet not performing it is very frustrating and slow.

Once you powder coat, you will never have to worry about doing over a second time. The paint is extremely durable.

    Powder Finger

    Now painting,

I'm going with powder due to its robustness. Did you ever see an original black fan housing/generator strap with its original paint on it?

I'm going with 60% gloss which, to my eye, is an exact match to the original finsih. In the SF bay area it is around $350 for all your engine sheet metal.
