I went thru the same apprehension when replacing my headliner on my 68. It's a break away type, so it requires more force than you think to dislodge it. Especially with 42 years of being in the same place. Just go for it...

Warm the windshield thoroughly and proceed very gingerly. Even then the odds are 50/50 you will break the glass. Myself, I'd go to an expert.

Thanks, glass is out. Does the mirror mount just pull straight out, or down I guess would be more accurate.

Is mirror glued to glass, or does it mount to metal above the glass? If the latter, my advice is irrelevant.

    Bill,

Stick a slim flathead screwdriver in the corner and force it in about an eighth inch and turn. Prepare to catch the mirror. The base is spring loaded.

To re-install insert one side of base and tap the other with a mallet. I would lay down a piece of masking tape to the base as not to mark it up.

There will be a separate plate the you will need to remove to install the headliner.

Do a search for further resto on the mirror where I used alum paint and vinyl paint for the back of the mirror. It will be the pic with the Smiths CD in the background.

    Piece of cake,

My Golden green 912 is going in for fast track resto, interior and exterior. Much of the paint is original, but thats the only good thing about it. The paint that is.

    Thanks Guys.
