    Ultimate Early Car Airconditioning Thread

    It has come to my attention that living in a warm to hot tropical climate can take some of the joy out of owning an early Porsche The temp here throughout the year ranges from about 30 -35C or 85-95F and humidity can get bad enough to grow mould on pretty much any surface

    I'm interested to know what you guys have done to make your early cars more comfortable. We all know that the factory systems were never wonderful but technology has come a long way.

    So what are you running, how much did it cost and where did you get it from?

    cool running

    Hi Cam,
    I have been over that problem a few times and found a company that makes a system, that relatively cools and heats your seat with the same technic.
    They claim to cool down to 63 and heat up to 93 degrees.
    I have in installed so far in 2 customer cars and they love it.Having said that it is integrated into the seat cushions for immediate contact or for after market you lay it over the existing seats, which looks not right to me...
    I am waiting now for the new version of the system to make it an option for our seats.

    Hi Stefan

    That sounds cool. Can you give an idea what it would cost if you would install it inside just the driver seat (original early sport seats) or let me know if you would rather discuss via phone email

    installation

    On the sport seats we have to make the loop a bit narrower to fit the profile,otherwise no problem.
    On an exact price I have to wait now for the revised model that is coming for fall.
    So far when we made the seats a surcharge of $ 225, if we take an original seat apart and install it a bit more due to the teardown and buildup....

    I've done research on doing this to my '68. My tentative plans were to scrounge a "Porscheair" original unit somewhere, these were specifically for SWB cars. And then, upgrade the inner workings to modern parts but keep the old style unit that mounts under the dash in the car. So, best of both worlds.

    At this point, I have not been able to find an original unit yet....and, I'm not entirely sure about drilling the holes in my car. But, this early unit does not require nearly as much hacking as the '69 and later units.

    Also, right now I say I don't want to cut the car...but ask me again in July when it's 95 and humid in Chicago!
