80MPH before the end of the driveway...RIG SHOT 2

This is my second attempt at a rig shot...post modification to my once flimsy rig.

First off, a rig shot is hanging the camera off a pole which is attached to the car. The purpose of a rig shot is to create unique compositions that can not always be created via car-to-car. A good rig shot gives the impression of motion/speed while being extremely sharp which is difficult via car-to-car. However, in this shot I'm just testing the rigidity so it not "unique". It's just my driveway trying to beat the sunset.

My rig required modification because it was too damn shaky. After a visit to Home Depot and some cable wire, eye bolts and a turn buckle, I managed to create enough rigidity to get a sharp image with a six second exposure! Try that car-to-car with that much blur in the background/foreground!

    See first attempt here:

BTW, I'm not pointing at the camera just to "strike a pose". That's my shutter release remote.

Bob, that is great! I really admire your creativity and skills. Funny thing is that my car did look like that going 80mph down the road today. Nice work.

You must have a really deep garage to build up that kind of speed.

So cloning out the boom rig in Photoshop is the only way to remove it? If so, nice job getting the sky so smooth.

    Thanks guys.

This shot was captured "in camera" and the only Photoshop involved is removing the rig. Easy for me to do since I spend the majority of my day in Photoshop.

The next time you guys look at a motion shot, look for the amount of blur in the background, foreground and wheels. Then ck out the focus of the car. Do you get the impression of speed and can you still make out the screws on the turn signal?

I noticed, as I am sure you have, by comparison of the 2 shots the sun in the background make less work of removing the shadows of your rig.

    Hi Olin,
I'm sorry - I don't follow your comment. Did I miss cloning out the rig or the rig's reflections or the rig's cast shadow?

You need a big cloud of smoke to go along with the burn-out coming out of your garage!
