    Tyres for 7R rims

    Hi Guys,

I have fitted some really nice (read expensive) 7R rims with 205/60 Dunlop SPs on the rear of my '71S.
The fronts are 6" rims with 195/65s.

The rear fenders are standard, not modified. Sits nice and low, however.

The car looks great but I am still not satified.

Does anyone have any experience with fitting 215s on the 7" rims? Will they fit without rubbing either on the wheel arch or on the inner bodywork?

Any thoughts will be appreciated before I go out and get some more tyres.

For your reference, on my 72T I have dunlop 225/50/15 on 7R on my rears, with spacer. However the rear fender lips are rolled.
On the front, 205/50/15 with no mods.

On my '67 I run 225/50's with 22mm spacers. The fenders have been very slightly shaved. I get an occasional rub, but only under extreme conditions.

    I have a set of deep sixes & 7R's* fitted with 185/70 & 215/60 (Avon CR6ZZ) tyres respectively:

*Incidentally I will be listing these wheels (without the tyres) for sale here tomorrow.

215/60s are a nice fit and the CR6ZZ is the finest 15" DOT compound 'street' tire (loose interpretation) out there, IMHO.

You can also get 225/50s to fit on 7Rs and with properly adjusted spacers, get them to fit under a narrow body without rubbing on an appropriately stiff suspension (28mm rear t-bars do the trick).

I'm running 225/50's on 7R's on the rear of a 67S. You'll have several variables to consider. I've found that these cars were still very hand built at this time, and just like the 356's these cars have some variance in the fenderwell width, and it can be significant when you're trying to make a tight fit work.

We had a variety of spacers to work with, ultimately we found a combination of tire, spacer, torsion bar size, and camber adjustments that made the fit work. The fender lips on this car were rolled when I got the car, so we didn't have any surgery to do. The tire we ended up with was a Yokohama A008 (extinct now?) and we tried several. In the end, we also had to shave the spring plate bolts to make it all fit, but I don't rub "ever".

There's a few threads on this very topic, you may want to do a search.

A shot attached, not great, but as you can see, they do fit.

    cheers,
    E

    Hi Tony,

I used 215's on 7R wheels on the rear of my '71S Targa along with a 15 mm spacer with no fender mods. This combination looked good and there were no rubbing issues at all.
