Fuel Consumption

Did a quick search on fuel consumption but didn't find too much.

Any ideas on what we should expect from a 1967S when driven sensibly?

The engine is in good order and the IDS carbs have been replaced by IDAs quite some while ago.

My records show 25.8mpg is the best I have ever achieved (on a 1000 mile road trip) and 22 to 23 mpg is my average. These are UK gallons.

why drive a 67s sensibly? Put your foot in it, if you want to save gas get a prius.
My 73S gets anywhere from 12 to 23mpg depending on my right foot.

This is the main reason - 3 points + $100 a pop 12 points in 3 years no licence.



These new Bu**ers measure average speed over a few miles.

Typical revenue generated is about $500 000 a year per camera!!!!

if you want to save gas get a prius.

Toyota's current Sales Figures show that US sales are currently 6 times greater in the USA than in Europe - so I guess I can leave this to you guys

Chris, mileage for our '67 S is roughly the same as Mike's average; I drive pretty hard and 19-21mpg is typical. We just did a vintage rally event in British Columbia that returned 18.5mpg over 1600+ miles, which included the 780 mile rally. My best so far is 23.5mpg.

FWIW, my wife's '68 T Sporto returns almost identical fuel economy.

Those traffic cams are definitely the pits. Probably a very good reason to buy some 67 plates and register the car with them as an antique vehicle. Most of the pre 70's plates are non reflective and thus aren't read by the infra red cameras. Not that I'm suggesting this as a reason to be historically correct and use plates from the original year of production. I'm just saying....

As far as mileage goes, my car gets it's best mpg at about a steady 75-80. That's when I can get close to 25mpg. Around town is when my mileage drops to 12-14mpg. The older cars had higher compression and so should be more efficient, although they run at higher revs so as not to bog down.

I averaged about 23 mpg over a 1500 mile road trip from Texas to CA in a 69E with MFI. Mostly highway driving. I picked up the car and started driving in the dark and "forgot" I was driving a 901 5-speed, so spent the first 350 miles in 4th gear!

My 2 liter '69S with mfi used to do 13 liters per 100 kms. while touring and about 16 liters per 100 kms. on the track at driver ed. events. My new car, a 2.7 liter RS engine with mfi seems to be doing 24 liters per 100 kms. on the track. Ouch! It looks like a 50% increase in displacement works out to about a 50% increase in fuel consumption. Does that make some kind of sense? I had to have a friend do some math for me but I think that works out to about 10 miles per (US)gallon. The first weekend at the track I scared myself when the engine started cutting out on me later in the day coming out of some of the corners. It took me a couple laps to realize I was running out of gas.
