1970 911S
Irish Green, black
VIN 9110300177
Eng. 6300385
This 2.2 liter 911S was sold new at Vasek Polak in 1970. It has zero rust, and no accident damage and is one of the best-bodied cars I have seen. It is my personal car and is fully sorted and can be driven anywhere. Below is an outline of the condition.
Body and Paint
The Irish Green paint is mostly original and still in very good condition. It does have a fair amount of paint chips on the nose, and there is a dent in the DS of the rear deck lid, some chipping around the fuel filler door, and a split in the paint at the DS quarter panel at the drip rail. The original factory alloy deck lid and rear center panel are in good condition except for the small dents mentioned above. The door gaps, front and rear lids, and bumper fits are all excellent. The original tinted glass alu. door trim and seals are all in very good condition. The chassis is rust free and the front suspension pan and battery boxes (a common rust area) are original and very dry. As mentioned above, there is no accident damage.
Interior
The interior has been recently converted to lightweight RS specs. The seats are Recaro bucket replicas made by Vintage Seats, and are covered in leather. The door panels are also leather. The carpet is factory German perlon with the correct cloth binding. The floor mats are done in the correct RSL ribbed rubber, and a set of perlon mats are also included. The dash has been replaced with a new factory part, and the instruments were sent to North Hollywood Speedo for cleaning and testing. The seat belts were replaced with German retracting three point belts…a big improvement over the non-retracting factory belts. The original beige vinyl interior with standard seats, door panels, rear panels and carpet is in good condition and comes with the car. The steering wheel is a 14” double leather wrapped RSL unit.
Engine, Trans, and Suspension
According to Porsche the original engine case was 6300210, the car now carries engine number 6300385, so at some point the engine case was damaged and needed to be changed. It is visually correct for the car and all components, except for the actual number, are authentic to the 1970 production date.
The engine was recently (just over 3K miles ago) fully rebuilt by Wayne Baker at Personalized Autohaus in San Diego. Wayne has an excellent reputation in the Porsche community and the rebuild was complete including new factory piston and cylinders, late oil pump, new clutch, etc (see copies of invoices). The cost was over $22K. Needless to say, the car runs flawlessly. The muffler is a reproduction of the factory rally exhaust, and the heat exchangers are stainless from SSI. The transaxle is in excellent condition and shifts well without noise. The brakes are the original 911S type with the larger aluminum calipers on the front and are also in excellent condition. The shocks are the original Konis and the factory swaybars and torsion bars are stock with stock factory rubber bushings. The wheels are late 7x15 Fuchs (not repros) and have almost new 205/55 BF Goodrich KDW2 TAs.
This is a very well preserved early 911S that has a mild R-Gruppe appearance. It is a driver’s car, and has no running issues and really needs nothing to drive and enjoy. The paint is original and has some “patina”, and with some small touchups it would be more than acceptable. Don’t be fooled by cars with high mileage that are not mechanically sorted and need only “a little” rust repair. You can spend thousands correcting a car that isn’t right mechanically, and the cost of rust repair and metalwork to repair old collision damage can skyrocket. The lucky next owner of this “S” can expect many years of driving pleasure.
