The best way to describe this car is fantastic driver. The first time you get into this car, you quickly realize that this car was very well maintained and never neglected. It is one of the tightest driving 356’s I’ve ever experienced. Based on the cosmetics and mechanicals, it is hard to believe that this car was restored almost 20 years ago.

The current owners are an older couple in Newport Beach, CA. They purchased the car from the 2nd owner back in the late 70’s. The car was originally delivered to a Porsche dealer in Oregon. It was sold to a resident in California just a few years later. This car has spent most of its life out of the elements and covered in a garage in SoCal. We have a significant stack of receipts dating back to 1970. Receipts are extensive with this Porsche and date back to the early 70’s. In 1993, Emorys Porsche Restorations of Fallbrook, CA was hired to change the color on the car (originally Irish Green on Tan) and rebuild all the mechanicals. Autos International did the entire interior conversion. Upon first glance, it is hard to believe that the restoration is nearly 20 years old. It looks like it was done about 5 years ago. The lacquer paint job is in excellent shape and has recently been completely color sanded to bring out its original luster. Within a few months of the restoration, unfortunately, the car was in a small fender bender on the front left fender. The owner’s were absolutely heartbroken. So, the car went back to Emorys to have it fixed. We have an entire file on what was done during this 2nd restoration. Also, upon a recent inspection, the mechanic could not find any evidence of accident damage repair. He said that Emorys did an incredible job and it looks and fits as if it was new from Porsche.

For the past couple years, the owners have been taking the car to Newport Motorsports (Andial’s referral repair shop) to have the car maintained. Less than 200 miles ago, they spent $3,300 having everything on the car gone through to make sure it was in tip-top-shape. Repairs included the following:

    Tune up
    Valve adjustment
    Change Gear Oil
    Brake Fluid Flush
    Axle Boots replaced
    Shift Shaft Seal replaced
    Shift Coupler Bushing replaced
    Brake Hoses replaced
    Clutch replaced and Flywheel resurfaced
    Carbs cleaned

We just had a pre-purchase inspection done by a local Porsche mechanic who is known for maintaining some of the finest local Porsches for several collectors. He went through the car and remarked on how tight driving the car was. He also said that the restoration was obviously done to a very high level. There were no signs of rust or bad repairs. He also said that the gaps/body fit was excellent. The 2nd gear synchro is a bit weak, but drives fine if you don’t abuse it…certainly normal wear for it’s age. He also did a compression test and the results were excellent:

    Compression:
    #1: 130
    #2: 130
    #3: 135
    #4: 130

There were only three small items he could find which we are having corrected: small leak at the reverse light switch on the transmission, small fuel leak on left side carburetor, and small cracks in the fan belt. We have ordered all the parts and will deliver the car with these items fixed.

You will be hard-pressed to find a cleaner example that is so well maintained that truly needs nothing but some fun driving.

This Porsche comes with tons of records dating back nearly 40 years, jack, car cover, floor mats, extra keys, owner’s manual and car bra. Sorry, the owner is unable to locate the original tool kit.

California registration is current and paid through June of 2011.
