My RS, which was an Italian market car, has a factory battery cut off switch mounted on the passenger side of the inner fender. Did Porsche install this item at the factory when the car was built?
Thanks,
John

Hi John,
I don't think that would be factory installed. On a side note we are restoring an Italian 73 RS at the moment. Number 1234 whats yours?
Alan
John, I don't think it would've been factory installed either, at least I've never heard of it before. I do know a previous owner of the car did race it, so perhaps he installed....

for racing I'd expect the cut-off to be easily accessible and visible - which I do not think is the case with your car. Might have been a security measure - you know what the italians are with nicking cars !!

Life is way too short to drive boring cars.
In the '70s and '80 was very common to have a hidden battery switch as a rude anti-theft device, I have one on my 2.4S and it's almost impossible to find

Hi,
My Italian RS has a battery cut-off switch in front of the gear lever, useful and I like it! But certainly I beat you with the amount of anti-theft devices. The car has three (!) other switches that cut-off either the fuel or power. One hides on the dash above the ashtray, one behind the vent grill above the pedal cluster and a key switch below the grill..... and still all electronics are working!
Now you all know how to steal my car Actually they have tried to steal the car way back in Italy, I can still see the pry markings on the doorframe...
Best, Cees
Hi John,
The Italian RS we have in is Light Ivory, we also have a RHD 73RS in signal yellow in for full resto.
Thanks
Alan
Alan:
You could not be luckier than to have two RS cars in your hands.
I am going to take the cut off switch out this weekend. The car is all stock, so I have to stay with that theme.

John
