Thread: Fan Sizes

Are you sure about the 906 magnesium fan housing? The part number should be 901.106.103.00. It seems that your posted photo shows a different number? I have attached a close-up of my fan housing for reference. Are you sure yours is not a 1976 225mm housing ?

    Fan Housing Number

The fan housing number is 901.106.1011. and has the 'H' in a circle.

It is from a 901/20 motor that was installed in a 904GTS which is where the confusion must come from.

The fan has been replaced by a larger diameter unit (I have no idea why and the body modified to suit!!!)

I am sure it is the same diameter as the 906/RSR etc.

I also believe that the angle of the dizzy changed in later cases but I have no idea of when or how much but would be very interested to learn.

There are 3 factors at play IIRC. The fan diameter, the internal diameter of the housing and the outside diameter of the housing. The '79SC housing has the conventional outide diameter and smaller inner diameter for the small fan. The 906 housing has the same small internal fan diameter as the 906, but is smaller in outside diameter than the conventional fan housing.

The smaller shroud is for the 906 housing, the larger for conventional. The '79SC fan setup is really nice since you get the smaller fan and can still use the normal shroud without the expense of a repro or original 906 housing, both very expensive, relative to a '79SC or regular fan.
