    1970S gauges

Wondering if folks can help me please with advice on whether these gauges that are in my 1970S are likely to be the originals?

    Cheers

They certainly look original & are correct for an 'S' - you could always 'pull' out the gauges & check the date (ink) stamps on the backs.

Was the car imported from Europe (kph speedo) ?

Thanks Andy. I'm in Australia, originally it's a UK car. I assume someone here has either converted the speedo to kph or it's from a later model. Lot's of other stuff has been "updated" (inside and out) which is why I was wondering if the gauges had been too.

    Cheers

    Mitchell,

    ... +1 what Andy said ...
Gently prise the gauges out along with the rubber retainers.
There should be a blue date stamp on the reverse somewhere.
The dates on mine are within two months of the cars completion - 1 March 1971 - so yours should be similar.
Your speedo could be a complete kph speedo or ,as with mine,a kph face on a mph gauge.
Your original speedo would have been a 150 mph unit but has been changed probably to avoid harrassments with the revenue collectors !
Check the speedo part number on the top inside of the gauge face - you may need a magnifying glass ! - and let us know what you have got.

Thanks Dennis. Haven't pulled the instruments yet but it won't be far off.

    Mitchell,

I believe you have an up-dated clock. The period clock should have a brushed/shiny disk in the center like the other gauges.

Unless the shiny disk is there and I just can't see it..........

    clock

It`s a close call! I enlarged it , there seems to be a shinny disc there, not really like the other gages, but the clock has a stem in the middle, the others don`t.....Cliff

    Chuck / Cliff

i think it is the correct clock (or a correct clock) It is impossible to read the letters on the bottom but from the shape of the words it is NOT the VDO Quartz - Zeit of the latter clocks - it almost certainly the VDO Kienzle of the earlier ones and thus appropriate for a 1970 car
