Leather Lined Early 911 Key Pouches: Any Interest In a Small Production Run?

Is there any interest in a small run of '65 - '73 leather lined key pouches?

My intention is for this project to accurately replicate the early 911/912/914 key pouch. I have 6 early key pouches (one NOS) and each of them differ in detail some way (color of liner, length of chain, etc.) So in some ways the end product is trying to hit a moving target. It’s pretty obvious that these were never intended to be analyzed this closely and as a hand made product were subject to lots of variations.

With that in mind... my first step is to produce a few prototype pouches sometime in the next few weeks to see how feasible this project really is. If there’s sufficient interest we can move on to the next step which would be a production run of 50 or so:

    1) Each pouch will be made of real leather skived thin on the ends before folding and sewing, just like the originals. The initial run (if there’s interest) will be black leather on the outside and maroon leather on the inside. Besides maroon, I own a crème lined pouch and have seen green and tan as well and if there is interest beyond the initial run than perhaps we can do some of these different colors, maybe even some custom colors that Porsche never did… red inside and out etc.

    2) 1965-1969 cars used a nickel plated split ring attachment as the keys were a simple metal design. 1970 and up cars have keys with plastic heads and require a hinged key clasp. I’ll be able to offer both types of key attachment clasps.

    3) I’ve found the correct style of chain and rectangular ring ends to attach the key ring to the chain and the chain to the pouch. Most of the pouches I have (5 out of 6) have 13 links in the chain and that’s the amount I’ll probably go with. If you want 14 we can talk.

    4) I pulled apart one of my pouches to measure the metal strip that provides tension when the pouch is opened. I’m waiting on a cost estimate to reproduce those pieces. These pouches should have the correct tension and the same ‘pop’ as the originals when opened.

    5) Finally, I’ve been working with a tool and die maker to accurately reproduce the crest used on the early pouches. As most of you know Porsche used different crests in different locations on the car. The hood badge crest is different vs. the steering wheel horn button crest vs. the owner’s manual pouch crest vs. the hub cap crest. The key pouch crest has a style all is own and I’ve drawn a version in AutoCAD I feel is very close to the original. I’ll probably post a picture of the drawing before the die is sent off to be made.

If there’s any interest in accurately reproduced, leather lined key pouch please let me know!

I'm in and would love if one day you did do a red on red pouch to match my car's colors. I would also love to get a chain and clasp for the early 68 pouch I currenty own.

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
