    '62 356S Notchback T6, #202247

Long-time 356 member that gets no love from the anoraks. General consensus is Notchbacks don't rate. Posted here as off-topic bait.

My first Porsche, owned 17 years and nearing hotrod Nirvana. Never found the original S case, so went from a 1600 Normal to a 2.0 SC/912. Torque wins! Restored the Abarth, scored on eVilbay for $50. Also have one of Dean's Polo 4s ordered, should get it sometime in the next few weeks. Decisions, decisions, always nice to have an engine for the application. The outlaw treatment is all bolt-on, like these NOS Rossi headlights with yellow Auteroche H4's, like Marchals. Kinda like the look, should work well with big-assed yellow 672s. May also add the smaller Marchal fogs below, but doubt the electrics could ever power all three. Grills will be stainless mesh, GT seats by Russ Rodriguez in gray vinyl with green/blue tartan cushions. Keeping it 6V, drum brakes, wheels are TechnoMag aluminum copies, will post more pix soon.

Comments regarding oddity and/or direction are appreciated.

    I love Notch's...!

Gary Emory did a great notch a few years ago. It was essentially sand beige. Had a very rare bench seat out of an A coupe in it, just so cool.... The car had nerf bars on it with a cross bar in the front between them. He had the Marchals mounted on the cross bar, also had modified H-1's to fit the car. He had discs on the car with widened steel wheels. Engine was a big bore with Venolia p&c's.
The Dean engine sounds like a whole lot of fun, nothing like cubic centimeters.

How about a louvered rear decklid? Sebring mirror? Tenax mount headlight grills? Another option would be GT deco on the bumpers.

Thanks, E! Love the Notchback racer Emory did, especially that pumpkin color! This one's going to be mixed use, hence the comfy seats to please my significant other. I bought a pair of Hunt's seats (they are LIGHT) and the door panels will be GT style, with roomy pockets. Bolt-in rollbar, squareweave, staying with the original color scheme. I have an alloy louvered decklid held onto for years for this project, done by another SoCal "Dean" over 30 years ago. It's gonna take some fitment, though.

Thanks for the encouragement, the 356 guys are way too serious and disparage these cars to the point I no longer post to the Registry.

BTW, Hunt makes a bench seat similar to these that is very cool. Great guy, exquisite workmanship for reasonable $$$.

Also think the notchbacks are ueber-cool. I saw such a stunning car at last year's North meets South in Solvang. I think Aetna Blue (Pale blue-ish) with a red interior - Fantastically restored to a level that you could drive the wheels off and still show a bit.

Yours will be delicious. What color did you choose? Fjord? Smyrna?

Will dig out a pic when I am home.

I was in high school when I bought my first car; a '61 T5 notchback in special order color Condor Yellow. It was in great shape with a 912 motor with 1720 kit and webers. It ran great and I drove the wheels off it. Sold it a few years later to get a 944 turbo. Ah, the mistakes of youth!

I would love to track down that car and buy it back. Can't be that many Condor Yellow notchbacks around.

Thanks for the comments, guys... glad to be among fans of the hardtop 356. Too many of these cars have been cut, considering their rarity.
Brooke, a Condor yellow notch was for sale in the LA area in 2008, it's listed on the 356 Hardtop site. Yours? Check the "unidentified" page here:

    http://www.notchbacks.org/index.php

Mike, mine is the original color, Smyrna. Grey interior is actually intact and pretty good so the seats and panels are stashed.
