    '68 steering wheel leather cover

Hey guys, I have a driver's side sport seat, new 195/65 sticky tires, and a fully rebuilt suspension with a fresh alignment, so I'm ready to tear it up in my '68. The only thing I lack is a decent steering wheel, I still have the stock 420mm plastic batwing wheel.

I don't mind the size of the wheel for now, what I need is a little leather. Since I have another kid on the way, I don't want to spend big bucks on another wheel.

Is there a low buck/low impact option for putting leather on my stock steering wheel that won't look cheesey?

    Thanks.

    Leather lace-on cover

Mike, I have a old wood wheel and wanted to keep it from being slippery when I went racing with the car. I laced on a standard "Wheelskins" cover. I think Pelican has them, and your local auto parts house will stock them. About 40-50 bucks.

It looks like this: (I removed it a couple of times to show the car with it's one-off factory wheel, but have put it back on - it feels good for daily driving).

Hey Mike, here's a similar period leather wrap that I took from a '65. There was an extended hub aluminum wood wheel underneath!

Anyway, I was going to use a double thread to really bring it nice and tight and make it look much better than the vinyl string that it had. I think this is a pretty good option. It's got nice patina and no injuries at all. $25 if you want it.

Jens I will take the cover, pm me with payment data. Alas my 911 spending is done for a while now after new tires, suspension rebuild and underside refinishing, so I'm sure I can't afford the hub!

Very good Mike. I'm glad you can use it. Where can I see photos of your car? Yellow is just so cool.
