    1968 911t/r? need a little help!!

First off I would like to say hello, I was told by several people that this was the place to come with questions about the early Porsche 911s. This is my father and my barn find, a 1968 911T, first a little history. This car started off life in 1968 as a special order to Poland, in the time frame from 1968 to 1981 this car was painted 7 colors. It started life sand beige, then Irish green, then white, then a darker yellow, a lighter yellow, lime green and finally ended up metallic blue. How many cars are painted 7 colors in a 13 year time frame, this is where we need a little help. Also in this timeframe the car got welded and leaded in RS flairs, real Porsche Carrera RS front bumper rear bumper and ducktail. The duck tail is fiberglass bonded to an aluminum frame, the front bumper has all factory mounting brackets bonded in to fiberglass, the rear bumpers look to be steel where the factory mounting brackets are then it looks like half way around the bumper it turns to fiberglass that is bonded to the steel to make up the flared portion of the bumper. In 1981 the car was shipped to Boulder CO with its owner Merek Malek, and was taken off the road in 1985. It looks to us that we are the second owner of the car. When we took possession of the car it had mud flaps on 3 of the 4 wheels. This is all of the info we have on the car and this is where we need a little help from all of you to identify what we have. We are very excited about this project!!

The tub number is 11820797 The engine number is 9011061010R and the trans number is 901/10 4speed 2080096 and the wheels are ATS 7jr15

    Hi Durango

1182 means that it is a TR according to me. Very nice car to restore. The people here on the board can confirm more about car with more info. Please take pictures of the inside of the driver door pillar where you open the door, the rear engine lid inside car (back board area. Also take a pic of chassis number. Then remove knee bump strip under dash and you will find a number stamped there please take picture. You can also take a pic of the paint code plate in the front of the driver door. If it is painted, close up with allu tape around it and paint strip the area. Please also take pictures under bonnet of fuel tank etc
The engine number you supplied seems to me to be a part number for the engine casing, look on the right side of the fan on the vertical pillar that support the fan will be the engine number. You will also find the engine type below in that area. Engine number will something like 208XXXX and type number 901/XX.

I love these awesome cars. Now what you do is keep posting pics of all details and let us enjoy your awesome find.

See this thread to find photos of where to find all the pertinent engine numbers. The engine serial number location is different for the aluminum and magnesium engine cases, but only but a tiny amount:

no as far as we can tell at this point- we have not striped the inside of the tub. but as up coming pictures will point ot there are threaded brackets on the parcel shelf that were used for shoulder harness mounts

Congratulations on a great find. Keep digging into the past of the car and keep as posted. You have a very unique car.
According to "Red Book" seems you have matching numbers 1968 911T .

As for Eng #, 208**** it is "T" engine.
    T/R's were 68 911T chassy with 911S engine and suspension. 911S eng# , for 1968, starts 408****.

Post pics of a dash borad instruments ( must be S type)
    Suspension/brake disc/calliper/Koni shocks etc.

Leon what makes you think this is a T Rally? The engine is a 68T assuming it is original, It fits to the serial number sequence. The T Rally would need an S engine number (big part of the Rally Kit) and it would be very unlikely to have a 4 speed again assuming it is original to the car. The car would also need a dead pedal. Is there one there? The threaded bosses on the rear deck on on most 68Ts. The 2 that I have have them so that is not a give away. Lets see some more pictures. Good luck with the project.

The VIN and the engine # are for a 911T. The TR was built from a T but generally had an S engine and 5 speed transmission. Someone could have personally converted it to TR specs, but I don't believe the factory produced it as one. However, it may have had extensive race history and that by itself is significant.
