not really by itself, but it is a good cross check against a chassis number (with the combination/ match only really known by Porsche) especially for high value cars like RS's that can be forged / cloned

apart from that it says it is a 911 (1); coupe (0); from 1970 model year (0); and is the 167th coupe of any sort built that model year by Porsche (I am not sure but I have a memory that Karmann cars had their own identifier in this series as well - a 2 instead of the 0? with targa's having a 1 -someone please chime in and confirm or otherwise)

that would place it as an early, possibly September 1969, build and the "S" chassis number is likely to be well short of #167 given that E's and T's were also being built

I believe that Hugh is correct. The body number seems to be a bodyshop control number that identifies the sequence in which the bodies were built. It may have been used for daily production statistics and for defining when changes were made. The factory has wisely made little known of these numbers, and does use them to help confirm the authenticity of a VIN. The factory will not tell you what the body number is for a particular VIN, but will confirm if the two numbers match their records.
