Also note the Porsche OEM symbols --- the highly stylized 'CV' (?) in a triangle . . .

'. . . Heads torqued up nicely and the motor seems to spin happily which, in turn, makes me happy. It’s definitely not a concours restoration but I think it looks pretty pretty . . .'

    . . . = my kind o' ugly

    An Ugly Engine

    Hey, David . . .

    Yup! --- sure was

Marco called it 'black oxide' and we waited a ridiculously long time for it to be done --- kinda process that gets done in 'batches' . . . for economy, I guess

Anyway, not sure what the materials + processes involved are, but, given Mg's propensity to decompose, the purpose is to seal-up the case to forestall any corrosion

I've seen other re-built engines with a noticeably darker shade to their Mg bits --- much darker than here. Need to ask Marco but this result seems to look a lot more like OE Porsche

    Works for me

Just so you know --- I asked Marco to build an olde-a$$ engine . . . something that won't look all that fresh-&-shiny when he's done. The money's been spent on the 'inside' stuff, all done by The Right Guys --- and that includes Marco. So 6301439 won't be a show-piece --- well . . . not in a traditional sense, anyway. But it will run like new, like it's supposed to . . . just won't look it . . . which suits me, just fine. A tool for a purpose

(Personally? --- I wanna to see that olde-a$$ air-cleaner sitting proudly on top of all this!)

    But mostly? . . .

. . . I wanna feel this ugly engine --- running + back in the Nasty Car!

    More 6301439 . . .

    '. . . Cam timing is done.

Bank 1 cam went in PERFECTLY at 5.2mm. I didn’t even have to adjust it. The bank 2 cam was close, but it jumped right into time without a fight. This thing is tits . . .

. . . Just need to put the rest of the rockers and shafts in tomorrow and the motor will be all sealed up and ready for dressing. That’s when things start to look grungy and grimy (even though they’re not)
