. . . plates are just a matter of convenience only --- = not to be trusted or relied upon for identification
If you get caught with wrong plates it's a serious crime - It's completely thinkable that on a film set they are switched intentionally or between a t-car and a race car (that didn't live beyond training) they might be "accidentially" mixed up.
But not for "normal" cars in normal traffic. This would fuck up your credibility sooo badly no one would do that.

Well, anyway --- Eric's photo is very interesting. And it seems at least two things have become clear (-ish) . . .

    1. That's NOT 1059 in the forecourt, and . . .
    2. The McQueen car --- or, at least its Zoll plate 428 Z-9705 . . . was at Mr Siffert's store in Fribourg

    This just gets better + better! . . .

    . . . zat look like criss-crossed tape? --- there . . . on the hood of the fog-light car? . . .

    . . . like it's covering/protecting the hood crest?

Would anyone drive it like that?

It's almost like --- maybe . . . it just got delivered or something

And it sure looks like there could be some kinda trim around those wheel openings --- especially in the rear

Do we know anything about how the McQueen car was delivered?

    And was Mr Siffert involved?

    'Cause --- it's sure looking more and more like that's McQueen's car from the movie! . . . 9110301502

    Go figure!

    Another Thing . . .

. . . all of this discussion has me thinking

Maybe I've made some wrong assumptions

The earliest confirmed photographs I have of 1059, are the ones Lou Scalzo took, back when he first purchased the car in CA, circa '82

At that time, the car was seen fitted with a later 'spoiler'-style 'S' front bumper --- replaced after a shunt . . . and still a bit catty-wumpus

The car has bumper guards . . .

. . . but when were they fitted? --- when the car was new?

Or were they fitted --- when that bumper was replaced?

So I went back and looked for an option list --- found this posting --- of US options . . .
    https://www.early911sregistry.org/fo...l=1#post394596

This list shows a option 'M 421: Front bumper horn delete'

Now, the Kardex for 1059 does not show this option listed . . .
    https://www.early911sregistry.org/fo...l=1#post648589

. . . but are 'bumper horns' regularly fitted to Euro 911s?

    In other words --- would M 421 even apply to a Euro-delivery car? . . .

. . . and could it be that 1059 was not originally equipped with bumper guards?

Because I've always assumed that it was

    Oh-Yeah . . .

    . . . one more thing

That car under the awning . . .

    . . . is that a right-hand antenna?

It looks like Mc Queens 911S to me -- it has the Le Mans track sticker placed exactly in the same place as the picture of Steve with Chad in the front seat of the movie car 911S. and it has 169 fog lights. Parked in front of Jo sifferts dealership.

Looks like it to me. And if it’s on the passenger side, it would have originally been fitted with an automatic antenna.

If we're talking about the headlights, then I don't think the car in the forecourt has proper lights even fitted

Compared to the car under the awning, it looks like it only has the headlight ring and glass --- maybe some kind of cover (or nothing inside?) . . .

. . . and definitely not its US-spec sugar scoops

Also, I'm looking at the front corner lights

The Awning Car looks to have the proper Euro-spec lenses = obvious two-tone colouring

But the Forecourt Car's lenses look like one solid color . . . = US-spec?
