Nürburgring Trip Last Week

Did 4 laps myself over two days and on the 4th the engine went into preservation mode!

For the ignorant (at least me), what is presevation mode?

It was basically so exhausted from running 4 hard laps over 3 days that it went into limp mode (a maximum of 1/2 throttle for a time) to limit any major engine damage.

An example of how hard the ring is on all aspects of the average car:

At the end of the first lap before the pit entry I was able to get it to 149 km/h. I figured I'd see at least 155 before the end of my time there. By the 4th lap it wouldn't pull more than 135! It was that worn out after 4 laps. Contrast that with the (almost) stock GT3RS that ran the 24 hours this year and finished 13th out of about 220 cars and then drove back to Weissach.

LeMans showed that Peugeot can't build an engine that can run hard for an entire race. They should have had the "limp home mode" on the 908s this year. Ironic that they stole the designation from Porsche this year.
