    question regarding engine lid lettering

A car I am considering for purchase, 1972 911T, has the Porsche lettering in gold, the 911T lettering in silver, and the 2.4 sign in silver. This doesn't look right to me. But the seller says it is. Is he right?

I'm not sure if it came from the factory that way, but you can get a "911T" in gold, as well as the 2.4. I would just switch them out.

I've never seen one on a 'correct' car done in that way, seems wrong to me, and an easy fix for the seller

I think that it should be all black on a 72. Gold lettering was for the S and the E or T with the S trim in 70 and 71. I think that some came with gold Porsche and silver 911T, but I'm not sure.

Up thru 69 Silver was used on 912's and Gold on all 911's. Don't know much about post 69 but I believe Black was prevalent on all 911's beginning in 72. I'm sure the badging experts will chime in.

For a 1972 MY 911, the following is is correct: Porsche lettering is black anodized, 911 lettering is black anodized, grill is black anodized, and the 2.4 sign is silver chrome with black surround. The black anodizing fades over time to a purplish color. This is how original cars look that have seen some sun.

From 911T registry website "options" for 1970 shows gold lettering and numbers as an option and part of the "appearance group" (page 17)

for 1970/1971, you could get either a 911T and Porsche all in silver (standard RoW), 911T silver and Porsche gold (option) or all in gold (apperance group). They did not had a litre sign but a 2.2 sticker inside on rear window.

So, if my 1971 car has "Options 470=Comfortequipment," which combination is correct?

I have gold Porsche and silver 911T, at present.
