Thread: Exhaust Valves?

  1. #1

    Question Exhaust Valves?

    I have a set of NOS 39mm exhaust valves P/N 90110541550. These measure 112.2mm long.

    I also have some used 39mm valves (I think exhaust valves beacause they have the dot in the centre??) but these measure 109.9mm long.

    The difference in length is above the valve retainer grooves in the stem.

    I am hoping someone might be able to tell me the correct application for the shorter valves.

    Happy to post pictures if it will help.

    TIA

    Exhaust Valves?

    I think the shorter ones were used with the non-adjustable racing rocker arms that used lash caps. The shorter length above the retainer grooves would accommodate the lash cap.

    Duncan - do the valves have any markings on the stems near the tips ?

    Something like "Ate XXXX" ?? or full Porsche part number ?

    Particularly interested in any identifying markings on the shorter valves.

    Thanks Ed, that makes sense.

    John,

    The shorter valves are marked as follows;

    Ate 3057 60 AUS K O P60

    The longer (NOS) valves are marked;

    T3061 / 1K

    The longer valves do not have the Ate logo???

    Thanks Duncan - the 3057 & 3061 predate any of my listings (I can only find valve guides for the 2.0 engines) ...I'm sure Ed is right on the shorter valve for lash cap. Maybe look for any evidence of wear on the sides of the tip of the short valves from movement of a lash cap ? - maybe a clue..

    Length differential is 2.3mm - about "mid range" of the various pubished images of lash cap sets that I have seen.

    TRW / KS and ATE have an intertwined history and these are their valve part numbers...30XX

    Others may give you a positive ID via the part number and markings you have provided.

    Thanks John. If it helps, the T3061/1k are in Porsche AG boxes dated 28.06.94.

    I would be interested in comments on the value of the shorter, used valves?
