    Independent Mechanic in Chicago

I just received delivery of my 1972 911T Targa.

Any recommendations for good independent shops? I live on the northside of Chicago (Wrigleyville), but obviously I'm willing to go where I must.

Near-term, I'd welcome anyone's help diagnosing and fixing an issue that apparently occurred during shipment of the car from California: The red warning light on top of the oil pressure/oil temp gauge is flashing continuously. The owner's manual says this could mean the parking brake is engaged. The lever is in the released position, and the car rolls freely.

The seller suggested the shipper might have yanked on the brake too hard, which he had seen in the past, causing the sensor to flash even though the brake isn't engaged.

Can anyone explain how to repair?

    Thanks in advance.

    Precision Porsche Service

The very best is in Spring Grove, IL. One man shop who treats the cars as his very own. He works on both my cars (and previous ones) and all the other midwest R Gruppe (who are also Early S members ) guys in WI, IL, IN, and MI. We have all been to many other shops and Larry is the best in our opinion.

Ahhhhhhhh... I know Larry. Great guy to work with. I didn't know he had a shop there. We've done a bunch of caliper work for him.

    +1 Larry's good people.

I have another guy that is in Arlington Heights area and does some work out of his garage...He actually is head mechanic at one of the area Porsche Dealerships.

Not going to say which one, don't need him getting in trouble or anything, but, if you would like his info, feel free to PM me.

He has done lots of work on all of my 914's and 914/6's and most other German cars I have owned.
