I've got a very nice air cleaner, and the snout, but need all the stuff that hangs off the end of the snout for the cold start assembly on a 72 MFI car, believe that 72 is the same as 73
tks,

E., I THINK, think being the KEY word that I have everything you need. I have to go check in storage tho, can't do so til this weekend. If memory serves, I took it all OFF my 72S and put it away. I WILL check for you and let you know.

Same.
You know that they recommended removing this stuff? It's probably where yours is. It wasn't really needed in NA and later (according to John Daniels(SSI) via Chuck Stoddard) the factory suggested removing it to lessen the chance of road debris getting through. Do a search and it should come up. Roger Grago is somebody who seemed to recall the "factory bulletin".
That's why SSI never made a setup for the later FI pre-heat.
Best,
Tom

Here's my unsolicited $.02:
The pre-heater setup is not a "must have" but it sure helps on daily driver cars. If you have the preheater shim stack housing on the pump, though, you have to make sure that the heater box has the hose to the sheetmetal and the sheetmetal has the hose to the preheater shim stack housing; otherwise you're just pi$$ing in the wind.
Conversely, if you should choose to remove the preheater assembly (which is common practice) you have to set the rack to the lean position with a plate/bolt setup (or an aftermarket adjuster available through various channels). You should also be willing to put up with a little fussiness when the engine is cold.
The flapper box, down hose and rubber hose to the snorkel are horsepower stealing crap - granted, it's crap that "should" be there, but it's crap nonetheless. Removing the rubber hose between the flapper and snorkel is good for a few ponies ... and a healthier sound ... the flapper box can be left in place but I always remove it because it makes the pedal feel more linear.
Eric, I love you, but Stacy's parts are not for sale.

Eric,
I have everything that you need!... How about a trade?
My Speedster already has Rudge Wheels and I sold my bench seat and metal hardtop a long time ago...
I would not mind another bench seat... I would trade you for your bench seat as long as it is black leather :-)...
What else you got to trade...

Mike,
The peanut gallery comments not-withstanding, I would love pics of the pieces you have. Please send them to elinden@earthlink.net
cheers,
Eric
Is this the part that you are all discussing? I've been wondering what it is for since I've had the car ('72S). Mine is missing so I am interested in acquring one as well, if even just for completeness! What is it's purpose? Sounds like there is some debate as to whether it is really necessary?
