    Headliner cleaning?

Anyone have a trick for cleaning a headliner? Mine is nice but
stained/yellowing in places. I thought of trying a diluted bleach solution
or upholstery cleaner of some sort but don't want to do any harm.

Would also love to know how to proceed if anyone has found the right solution.

I had excellent results with Scrubs-in-a-Bucket hand cleaning towels.

I have tried several solutions to remove the stains - CLR (Calcium, Lime, Rust), Iron Out, and Bleach. I first used a simple terry towel with each of the solutions and rubbed gently. I am not sure which one worked the best, but it did improve the yellow stains somewhat. Personally, I thought that a careful application of bleach would do the trick, but the OTC bleach available to consumers today is just not a very strong solution IMO. I even tried to bleach the hard water stains in some bathroom grout to no avail (and I have used this successfully in the past - that is why I think the concetration has changed in the past 10 years or so).

In the end, I just used a cleaning product from my detail shop and the sponge/scotchbrite pads you get for the kitchen. I use the green scotchbrite side and a cleaning solution. Seemed to do the best for me, but still did not fully remove the stains. Good luck.

An alternative, took me a looooooong time to locate but I found a vinyl dye in a rattle can on web that matched up VERY close to new headliner from Autobaun. Just finished ivory side of visor's and they look great agains't new headliner.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've only tried 409 in the past and didn't want to get too aggressive without consulting others. Sounds like the headliner will tolerate more than I threw at it.
