    Hidden 911 ST factory car

As a few people might know I have been keeping a little secret. The secret is red white and tangerine.. and well here goes. First I will do the history of the car in date order and then I will post the restoration.

About 4 years ago I started looking for a 911 rally car that went missing here in South Africa. One year and two months ago I actually laid my hands on the car for the first time against all odds. Today was the Porsche Club concourse and the reveal for the car. So now that it has been revealed I will start what will hopefully be an awesome thread.

    Chassis number 911 230 0047

The car was purpose build for the 1972 Monte carlo rally. The factory build two cars chassis 911 230 0041 (S-AK 1336) and then this one 911 230 0047 (S-AK1337).
This car had Bjorn Waldegaard as driver for the event and Hans Thorszelius as co driver.

Congratulaitons on finding one of the very special factory STs! Looking forward to seeing the restored car, and enjoying your odyssey in finding and documenting the details for the 'recovery'. I have always admired this ST.

    Rallye Monte Carlo
    Drivers: Waldegaard & Helmer
    Race Number: 15
    Position: DNF (accident)
    Date: January 22

The car entered the race as a factory entry but with a private sponsor for the car. The sponsor was Seb pressure cookers which required that the car will be sprayed in their company colors. The racing department only painted the outside of the car and the chassis was still the original orange. The car is painted like this again today.
The car retired after damaging the suspension caused by an off road excursion while leading the rally.
The meaning of the slogan on the bonnet and boot lid is “what is it, that is red and goes quickly”.
The sister car driven by Gerhard Larousse went on to finish second behind a Lancia Fulva HF that was driven by Sandro Munari.

    Wink Seb.....

Great story , this is going to be very interesting.

How can such an important car go missing?!

I love the marketing campaign done by "seb" (kitchen utensils, and pressurised cookers):

"What is red and goes fast?"

From the photographs, it seems that they added, during the Monte Carlo rallye, the two "seb" stickers on the hood.

Makes more sense without them, as the question remains unanswered until the car is seen from the side.
