    SWB steering column support seal

As us SWB owners know, the support seal in the steering column extension are NLA, and by this time most of the original seals have crumbled into dust, as was the case on mine. I thought I'd share my fix such as it is. I removed the cover (support ring) and removed all traces of the old seal. I used some 3/8" diameter weather strip material, cut it to fit around the shaft and glued the ends together. After a trial insertion in the column tube I decided it needed to be just a little tighter, so I wrapped the column with one layer of old 356 door seal that was handy. Reinstalled the rope seal and test fit it in the tube once again. With the steering wheel installed to support the upper bearing it all seemed plenty tight. If anyone has made some other fixes would you please post them.
