    1968 911 Euro or not?

    Hi,

A car posted on eBay a while back (Porsche : 911: eBay Motors (item 130421663494 end time Aug-23-10 10:58:04 PDT)) is described as a 1968 EURO Porsche. However, chassis and engine number provided (11830377 / 3280624) are in the US range in the red book.

Also, hard to tell from the images provided, but it looks like it may be badged as a 911T?

Can anybody provide some insight on this?

    Thanks

I also have that listed as a 1968 USA Normal version. So it is missing the 1968-only side marker lights. Yes, it appears to have 911T badging, which is for the 1182xxxx series, not the 1183xxxx series.

    Gruen911,

Please relate what to look for when determining that fenders are LWB or SWB.

    Thanks.

Can't recall seeing SWB and LWB features on the same car. Interior photos show it to be a SWB with the floor heating vents. But the doors with the ventless solid glass are LWB.

Initially, the wheel flares on the LWB cars are wider than the SWB's, both in the front and the rear.
Here are a few pix of my ex-67. AS you can see there is almost no flare whatsoever, it just looks like the lips have been slightly rolled.

That observation is partially correct. 1968 cars imported to the USA prior to Jan 1, 1968 did not need the DOT mandatory headrests nor did they need the side markers. Also, 1968 fenders are different from the 1967 Porsches and the LWB 1969 Porsches. These fenders are one off year production just like the 5 1/2 fuchs that were only made for these 1968 cars. ( fenders taper from bottom to top to facilitate the 5 1/2 wheels)

Yes , the black car shown here has LWB fenders. The interior looks fairly well preserved. BTW, the 911 T model for 1968 was like the 911 S. they were Euro only delivery.

Euro 911T with US build no?

So as I understand the 1968 911T was a euro only model. Apparently this vehicle has US chassis and engine numbers and what looks like T badging. Is anybody aware of any other examples like this or a legitimate that this could have occurred? Or are we looking at some pointless modifications? (Can't think of any good reason to present a US 68 911 as a euro 911T.)

    Thanks

I canīt see any reason to think this is a Euro car, it has US headlights, US knobs on the dash, Euro tail lights and front turn signals, but they seem like reproductions, it also has an incorrect side mirror, an incorrect steering wheel. Plus it seems to have LWB grilles (which is REALLY odd). It does have 68 only door panels and rear view mirror, but the horn grilles really turn on a large red light (IMHO), you can't just install LWB horn grilles on a SWB car

    Red light indeed

SWB? LWB? Euro? US? Wrong numbers?

Looks like enough mismatches here to be extremely cautious.

Thanks all for your input... my search for a SWB continues.... elsewhere.
