    FA: 1976 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0

I just listed my 1976 Porsche Carrera 3.0 on eBay:

    VIN #: 9116600183
    Engine Type: 930/02
    Engine #: 6660227
    Transaxle Type: 915/44
    Transaxle #: 7161323

    The Carrera 3.0:

The Carrera 3.0 was a European only model produced for the 1976 & 1977 model years. Successor to the Euro 2.7 Carrera, the key model features include a body shell with flared rear quarter panels and a 3.0l 200hp engine based on the 3.0 turbo engine. Only 3,691 Carrera 3.0 cars were produced for 1976 and 1977 (2,566 coupes and 1125 targas) making it a fairly low production version of the 911.

    This Example:

This Carrera is #183 of 1093 coupes built for the 1976 model year and was optioned with the ‘sports’ package. It was purchased in Germany (still has ADAC phone list sticker in the glove box) and was shipped to Canada in the late 70’s by a returning Canadian Forces serviceman. It was bought and owned by the owner of the premier import tuning shop in Calgary in the early 80’s who occasionally tracked the car and rebuilt the engine prior to selling it on to a new owner in 1987. That owner maintained it well and had it painted the last year as the paint was starting to show its age. He found he wasn’t driving it as much as his newer Porsche model and put it up for sale. I recently purchased it for our family to use as my hot rod 911E is a bit too uncomfortable for weekend drives. While my wife likes it, she wants a later 993 instead, so this one is up for sale – hopefully to be replaced with a 993 Targa.

    Details:

    - Fitted with the following ‘Sport’ option pack:
    Bilstein struts
    Front spoiler
    7 & 8 x 15” Fuchs
    Air conditioning delete
    Sunroof delete
    LSD transaxle

    - Includes binder of past receipts and work completed since 1987
    - Factory tool kit and jack included
    - New tires were installed 4 years ago and have about 3,500 km on them

    Body:

    - Very good exterior
    - $14,000+ paint job in original Minerva Blue ( Paint code # 304-9-3) in 2007
    - 8.5 out of 10 – looks great, but there are a few minor flaws:
    - Small 1” paint crack on hood
    - Small ding on door
    - Small dent on decklid where tail mounts (not very noticeable)
    - Some undercoat peeling off, but reveals clean metal underneath – not rust
    - Quite rust free overall – biggest issue are:
    - a small 2”x3” spot with surface rust forward of front a-arm mount
    - 2 spots on passenger inner fender between VIN plate and front panel
    - Inner fender near battery box
    - Solid front pan and floors
    - Shallow dent under center tunnel from running over curbing during a Drivers Ed event
    - Most rubber trim is in good shape, but door seal s could use replacement
    - Minor accident in past – rear reflector panel replaced about 15 yrs ago
    - Fog lights +H4 headlights
    - 1978 OEM whale tail spoiler fitted at rear – could use alignment shims at hinges
    - No cracks or chips on any glass
    - Includes rubber trim items to replace North American spec side lights if buyer wishes.

    Interior:

    - Good Cork and black interior
    - Very good dash with no cracks
    - Decent carpets and front floor mats
    - Seats could use a recover (the two tone cork/black seat covering isn’t original)
    - Driver window is slow to go down
    - Fitted with Alpine cassette stereo (CD changer in front trunk)

    Engine:

    - Original 930/02 engine
    - Rebuilt ~58,000 km ago
    - Runs strong
    - When cold, Idle ‘hunts’ between 800-1,200 rpm – steady at 900rp when warm
    - Stock except for upgraded oil fed tensioners
    - SSI heat exchangers and sport muffler
    - No broken headstuds
    - Minor oil seeping from the odd gasket, but no drips on the ground
    - Recent filter and oil change to Brad Penn 20/50

    Transaxle:

    - 5 spd 915 transaxle
    - Equipped with LSD
    - Shifts smoothly into all gears – no crunching of synchros
    - No jumping out of gears
    - Minor weeping from bottom shift fork gasket
    - Recent fluid change to Swepco 201 gear oil

    Summary:

While not a show car, this Carrera 3.0 is a nice presentable example of a relatively rare car. It has spent most of its life being summer driven in the dry Alberta climate and has none of the rust issues commonly found on Euro cars of this age. It’s a 35 year old car and has a degree of patina, but it’s been well cared for and is ready to drive anywhere. This would be an ideal candidate to be shipped back to Germany or any other European country as it’s in great structural shape.

Feel free to ask any questions or request addition detailed photos.

    Valuation:

Excellence magazine values the 74-75 911 US Carrera (USA Version with 160 hp CIS 2.7 NOT the 210 MFI 2.7) with a low value of $29,200 and a high value of $39,000

The reserve for this rarer and more desirable 76 Carrera 3.0 is set much less than the low value of those examples!

Payment: $1,000 deposit by paypal within 24 hrs and balance to be sent by bank wire transfer within 72hrs.

Shipping: Shipping is to be arranged and paid for by the buyer. I can assist with shipping logistics on my end and have shipped cars overseas before, but the paperwork, customs forms, taxes and duties are the buyers responsibility.

Out lap + 1 hot lap from the outside - crappy sound as I forgot to bring the other case for the camera.
