Hi Folks, How does a 1969 E differ from a 1970 E?
Can anyone compare what the difference is in driving feel between a 1970 E a 1970 S and a 1972 T?
Thank you.

I have seen quite a few ads that say a 1969 2.2 engine, so this is not possible?
the 2.2 came in in MODEL YEAR 1970 - which starts in about September 1969. So a car advertised in that way may be first registered in 1969 but is in fact a 1970 model year car

the 70 was the first year for the 2.2 as to the difference. Driving wise mainly power. There were many detail differences in standard models but varied due to some t's and e's having s options. The motors were the main difference.

And how would you tell the difference between the 2 and the 2.2 engine by looking at them?
No obvious external difference, need to check serial # or engine. The performance difference is discernable but I would not hesitate to buy an excellent example of either car or any 911 for that matter.

If the engines are orignal spec, then you can tell by looking at the mfi injection pump (on the left hand side towards the rear of the engine) - the '69 E & S models had 2 solenoids on the pump whereas all later years' pumps had only 1.
Here are shots of a '69 2.0E injection pump & a '70 2.2E pump:

The solenoids are the silver-coloured cylindrical parts protruding from the front cover of the pumps.

Yeah, it was a neat puzzel for me until I figured that out. I had a 1972 911t that was a great car and then I thought I'd upgrade with a 911e targa who I unfortunately bought from Jack Molinier on eBay. So I ended up having to sell both. Anyway, I thought at this point I would try to get a 1970/71 S or a 1972/3 E. Either sun roof or targa. I have been looking but as cost and color is an issue I haven't found the right one yet. Since I have already owned a T I did want to experience an E or S. Hence the driving comparison question. Thank you for the answers.
