    Modifying E Cams

    Here's the delema.

My cams are warn (not warn out) but have some miles on them. The shop doing my head rebuild suggested having them modified. What's the consenus here.

Do I have them restored to stock E specs.
    Or
Have them modified slightly (fatter ramps, slightly more lift)

The car is a 73 911 E. I would love a few more HP but don't want to cause issues with the MFI

Has anyone done this? Was there a noticable increase in top end HP? Was the MFI able to be dialed in to account for the changes in cam profile.

    What would you do?

I've done it. The mod is a regrind the DC30 (mod-Solex) specs. John Dougherty does it and it is an ideal upgrade...way better than Solex and E cams. A full regrind is about $300 and your cams come out like new.

I have been talking to them about this exact grind as well as a slightly less agressive mofification.

Any issues with fuel delivery from the MFI? Are you using an S (space cam) MFI?

I wouldn't call the DC30/Mod-Solex "aggressive"...it is pretty relaxed actually. I run stock springs and carbs on my '65 2 liter w/ Mod-Solex cams and the motor spins to 7K like lightning on small ports and valves, then falls off fast. Torque is very E-like, with more S-like rush on top. I think a little port floor work would liven the top end up a bit.

MFI won't be an issue and an 'S' or 'E' space came would work fine on this cam. You might need to adjust the enrichment screws a bit for ideal AFR, but you won't have any issues.

I spoke to Gus at PFI and he said the E MFI should be fine with this setup.
