    Twin Plug Distributor

As I am considering twin-plug ignition on my spare hot-rod 3.0L SC engine with 46 PMOs I wonder what the 'best' twin plug dist. would be to purchase in terms of accuracy/ tolerances/ overall building quality/ reliability?

JB Racing's dist. seems to have a good reputation and are used extensively also here in Europe, so this might be the 'best' way to go?

I plan to run it with a twin coil MSD.

Any suggestions or personal experiences are appreciated!

    Many thanks,
    Christian

I run a copies based on the Marelli made by 901 Shop. You can use it with points or with a crank trigger. Have never had an issue with them. I can email you more info.

(disclaimer; I have no ownership or financial interest on 901 Shop, just a friend and highly satisfied client).

    here's a pic:

    and description:

The casting looks like the Marelli distributor used on the early 906-911 race engines.

It can be ordered to replace either the small (up to 1971) or large (1972 on) distributor. A big advantage of this distributor is that it uses an inexpensive cap and rotor. If you need an advance curve, MSD makes an electronic “advance box” that has a 20º curve in it, which works very well in street or race applications. The distributor can be ordered with or without an internal pickup and the MSD unit is not included in the price of the distributor assembly.

I'm happy with my JB Racing dizzy.

There are plenty of others happy with theirs!

I've used Aaron Burnham's stuff a couple of times in customer cars with very good results. His stuff is very well built and virtually bulletproof as it's based on the stock SC/Turbo hall-effect signal (as is the Bosch factory twin plug). The caps and rotors are well-made pieces, and it's nice to know you can get them should something go sideways on you.

In my personal car I have a twin-plug Marelli still running points.

In my father's car he has a hodgepodge with a factory Bosch cap and rotor but with two sets of points.
