    The final incarnation of the magnesium case. It was introduced in mid 1973 production and used to the end of the 2.7 production.

    A small run of diecast aluminum cases was made for racing engines as the magnesium case was proving fragile. Photos taken by Steve Weiner of Rennsport Systems.

    I have a 4R/5R '72 case engine in my own car,....

    AFAIK, they never did a 6R (unless it was a prototype and never produced).

    Your last pic is of the 3.0 RSR case. These were die-cast ones and had the finning along the bottom.

    One of the most interesting cases is the sandcast magnesium case used in the 906.

    AFAIK, that crankcase had a stud spacing of 83mm (3mm more than std), unique to the 3.0-liter RS and RSR.
