    Norway Ice Driving School 911

Starting to make preliminary plans for our 2nd annual ice driving extravaganza in Lake Mills, WI and came across this video. This program is put on by Tuthill so you know it's good - 310HP 3.0L with hi-butterfly injection and twinplug. I think John Glynn told me he's either been to this school or is going.

Cool Curt. Been saying for years I would do it but not had time to go yet. Leonard Stolk and I are now planning on taking a TwinSpark Racing trip to it this year in one of his cars on winter tyres. A feature in there for sure!

AWESOME! I wanted to thank my brother Mark for linking this to me and also say that If you guys ever get a chance to try this sport, preferably in the non-contact solo type versions, YOU SIMPLY MUST EXPERIENCE THIS!!! This will be the single most significant opportunity for ANY driver, to hone to a razors edge, their car control reflexes. As you increase your seat time doing this, your brain will begin to move more and more functions of catching and controlling a sliding car over to the much more rapidly initiating automatic regions of the brain.
I guarantee you have never had more fun in a car,(with pants on) and I also guarantee you will find your car control has improved, in a very significant amount, even seasoned veterans!
I campaigned a 78 Ford Fiesta in the Central New York Ice Racing association for 5 seasons. I ran in D stock, the rules were fairly open but limited the carbs. This essentially resulted in a restrictor plate type of competitive environment, so build costs were not out of sight.
Even though it may not have seemed apparent at the Rally in the Valley with my spin, Ice Racing radically transformed my driving. My SCCA autocross rain times greatly improved during the summer season and later in life when I took up open tracking and needed to catch a sliding 2 ton slug of a Mustang my instructors commented approvingly. During the RIV I was actually staying pretty close to some extremely fast sticky tired cars, till I asked a little too much from them while driving my first mid engined car ever. POLAR MOMENT!
You guys will absolutely love this! There can be no doubt!

Jimmy - I've done some (solo) SCCA ice racing here in Mich. Agreed, I can't think of a better way to develop the reflexes. Last year we did our own thing and had some real fun. This is Scott Hansen on DOT studs:

That was so much fun! Looking forward to it this year, but we need to answer the LSD question. Would it be as much fun in a car without LSD? I maintain - NO! Looks like it will be the 4WD cars for us Curt. Gotta think about studded tires for the Subie.

    RE: LSD

I'm not so sure. I was thinking back to my VW Bug days in college and I don't recall having any problems on snow/ice. In fact, the car was a blast on snow/ice! We will know for sure this winter because I plan to bring the GrayWolf. I've got some spare 6" Fuchs and 2500 ice spikes ..... We shall see what happens.

The big question is, will I need a wing?
