Talking Bosch 0580 MFI Fuel Pump Available from Porsche Classic

Porsche Classic is now listing the Bosch 0580 970 001 MFI fuel pump (Porsche part 901.608.105.00) as available once again. I just ordered it for slightly less than $600 for a BRAND, NEW pump!!!!!

Wow, that is not too much more than I paid for a lightly used, recently rebuilt pump. Great news!

Toby - Can you post a few photos of the new pump when you get it, and let us know if it is dimensionally the same as the original? I have seen these listed but haven't yet ordered one. Price seems reasonable to me, since as Max notes notes it isn't that much more than the cost of a core plus a rebuild.

Will do George. I should have it in hand next week. I have a rebuilt 0580 pump I can use for comparison purposes. And you and Max are correct. By the time you find a used pump and send it out for a rebuild, I think you will actually pay LESS to buy a brand, new pump from Porsche! How often does that happen?

Porsche is truly amazing. Its the only company around that can get something manufactured for probably about $75.00, sell it for $600.00 and people think they are doing everyone a favor.

Mike, you are spot-on. The interesting rumors I have heard revolve around the fact that Bosch has a *TON* of these MFI parts sitting on warehouse shelves somewhere in Germany. The only thing preventing these items from being sold is a contract with Porsche that prohibits their sale to anyone not physically located in Germany. So to your point about $75 manufacturing costs, those dollars were likely expended literally YEARS ago!

Maybe some of us who yearn for MFI are related to Pavlov's Dog!

OK - I'll bite. Is this one of those items that a "prudent" owner would squirrel away for the day he needs one and can't find one? I somewhat reluctantly, recently parted with my Webers, crossing my fingers that I'll never regret.

FYI I saw these pumps on the Porsche Classic stand at Essen. I also spoke with the folks at the Bosch stand. These new pumps are not being manufactured for Porsche by Bosch. Source unknown.

Well, we'll see what happens when this pump comes in. At least I have an original pump that has been rebuilt by a known, quality rebuilder. If the new one breaks, I'll be right back at ParkPlace's counter.
