I like the road above Portland (a very cool city and worth a stop with some nice exhibition spaces and dining options) along the coast to Rockland and Camden etc.
Apparently this japanese woman runs a fantastic sushi joint (woman chef w- sushi joint is itself an anomaly .... warmer hands supposedly make for bad sushi, even if untrue etc) http://www.suzukisushi.com/
Farnsworth museum with Andrew Wyeth paintings are up there too.
Would love to do this. Check NOAA for weather though ( http://www.erh.noaa.gov/ )

Reza, we will be doing some nice routes into Maine next spring during the rally. Mostly along the western part of the state, and as far north as Rangeley.
I think that one of these years we could do the whole rally along the coast of Maine. Before the summer tourists descend (or ascend in this case), there are some nice roads on almost all of the many peninsulas that would be fun to drive.

The Maine coast is fantastic. Mt Desert Island and Acadia National Park are a must so check to see if it has closed for the winter. Beyond
Elsworth it gets more remote but a nice drive all the way to Eastport. How you do it is your choice. I tend to take 95 to Bangor and head down to Bar Harbor. It gets me up there a good distance to get started and I plan my trip from there. It's a big state. If you have any questions about a particular place or town etc., let me know. I spent 4 years in the Coast Guard up there and have a LOT of miles driving in the state of Maine. I'll be happy share what ever I can. I meant to talk to you more about it on The Cold Toes but didn't get the chance.

got sidetracked by a rennlist forum posting for crew to sail "south, to wherever". so i went and boarded, from annapolis MD, jumping ship at newport news VA two days later. 1) i aint a great sailer. 2) november is a cold time to find your sealegs. but it was great fun and experience. great guys, first mate is a 964 guy 160,000mile, and the cap'n is a GT3 racer.
so, now, Maine . . . still hoping fit in...

If you continue on 1 along the coast towards Calais, take a left on 9S. This 80 mile stretch of road caters to desires for a high speed early S 40 minute workout. The roller coaster layout has great sweepers, views and shifts keeping the RPM's in the low 7's! A great finish of the coastal tour back to civilization.
