Thread: Soft window removal?

    Soft window removal?

Has anyone removed the soft window portion of the Targa to replace it? I see fasteners at the rear, bottom section from inside the car, which looks straightforward to get that end off. But it's the top section I'm having trouble with. I've pulled down the two release handles under the Targa bar itself, but nothing releases. Is there a trick to getting it out?

    Thanks in advance

Your handles should have a stop screwed onto the base to prevent the part on the upper hoop from losing its indexing on the threaded portion of the lever. If these are present, you can unscrew them which should allow you to move the lever far enough to disengage the two parts. As I recall, there isn't a whole lot of travel in the upper bar. If you are wanting to get more travel, you'll need to pull off the bolts at the base of the Targa bar.
Here is a link that shows most of the soft window parts and pieces.

Good luck with the "doing-it-in-reverse". It's not that easy all the time. I've restored several SWT's and in order to replace the entire rear boot you will have to completely remove the entire boot. If, you only want to replace the rear window, for visability purposes, that can be done by a savy Porsche knowledgeable upholstery guy.

Good luck and gratis to you for saving another SWT...
