    1968 hood question

Yesterday I was taking a closer look at May 1968 912.

The hood raised questions to me.

    1. did 68 have 1 or 2 square holes for a trunk light?
    2. how many trunk lights is a 68 supposed to habe
    3. do 68 hoods have the slot as can be seen on the picture?

Excuse me for the not so good pictures that are attached.

Richard, I can take a stab at this:

    1) All hoods have two holes until 72 when they went to one then back to 2 in 73. This is in Dr. Johnson.
    2) 911 have two lamps, 912 has one. The extra hole on a 912 is filled by a gray cardboard plate and two white plastic rivets.
    3) I went through my collection of SWB hood photos, not there on 66, not there on 67. I don't have a shot of a 68, I will ask Damon.

    Hope this helps!

The wiring harness is there on a 912 covered by the cardboard blank, you just need the light fixture.

    Richard,

I don't know if this is still relevant for you but I have a very original 1968 912 Coupe.
The hood has two holes. Only the one on the driver side has a light. The one on the passenger side is closed by a card board cover. The slot in the front area is not correct on a '68 912.

Interesting my 68 US 912 has one light on the passenger side and no provision for a light on the driver side (no holes). It has slots on front approximately 50mm behind the rubber bumper on both sides. I wonder if these difference are due to Porsche contracting bodybuilding out to various coachbuilders. Mine was built by Karmann.

Mine is also a Karmann body. And it was a US model which I reimported two years ago. When I bought it the car was still in the original paint and none of the body panels seemed to have been replaced. I can take a look at a friend's car. Its also a '68 912 from the US.
