    911 / 912 identity crisis

    they write: Titled as a 1965 Porsche 912. The VIN # on the title and under the front hood, stamped in a plate above the fuel tank is 302364 when I do a search it shows up as a 1965 911. The riveted plate under the hood near the front latch has a Vin number of 354241 on a search that # shows up as a 1966 912. The plate for the color code is missing...

    Sounds like a 911 with a 912 VIN tag. IF it is titled with the 911 VIN, then it might be clean, but who knows. Clearly a car whose title is questionable.

    Hum, looks totally like a 912 AND, in fact, I have "the real" 302364 in my database as a really nice complete 911. The 912 has a 4 cyclinder motor, 912 dash and 912 alu tag, so it is weird the stamping number would be 911-what kind of accident damage causes that kind of repair? No shot of the VIN though on the 911, so, I suppose it could be wrong. Note the "real 302364" is missing the front alu. tag and, therefore, makes me wonder.
